ArthroCare Corp. seeks to become a medical device leader by redefining the standard in soft tissue surgery. ETHICON, Inc.

ETHICON, Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer of sutures and related wound closure devices with more than 3,500 different product codes. In 1949, ETHICON was formally established as a separate division of Johnson & Johnson and began to diversify its product line to meet the expanding demands and new challenges of increased specialization in surgery. The product line expanded into natural fibers beyond gut and silk to cotton and linen; to absorbable and non-absorbable synthetic fibers and stainless steel and tantalum needles. Long Island University Athletics - BlackBirds

In addition to providing treatment and rehabilation, the athletic training staff provides education to student-athletes regarding health matters and concerns in order to air students in achieving optimum health and conditioning.

’Connor, who was promoted to head trainer in 2000. O’Connor, who started with LIU as a graduate student from 1994-96, is responsible for maintaining the operation of the athletic training room. His duties also include the coordination of medical coverage and the administering of the athletic department’s drug education and testing program. He also is in charge of scheduling appointments with the program’s physician, coordinating preseason physical exams and designing treatment and rehabilitation programs.

Professional Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy

A physical therapist owned facility. Their staff is comprised of fifteen physical therapists of which five are NATA Certified Athletic Trainers and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists. Collectively, their staff has over 100 years of physical therapy and athletic training experience, as well as more than 35 years of strength and conditioning experience at the high school, college, and professional levels. St. Francis College Department of Sports Medicine offers a wide range of rehabilitation options to their student-athletes, some of which include orthopedic/internal evaluations, emergency medical and treatment services. Also, the department offers referrals in dentistry, optomology, and physiological counseling. The treatment facility at St. Francis College contains state of the art machines including Laser and Micro-current technologies.

Public School Athletic League

The mission of the Public Schools Athletic league is to provide opportunities for educating students in physical fitness, character development and socialization skills through an athletic program that fosters teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. PSAL Supports Academic Standards
* A student must pass four credit-bearing subjects and physical education.
* Two of the four subjects passed must be in the areas of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Foreign Language or Science.

Northeast Conference Athletics

When the Northeast Conference was first established as the ECAC-Metro Conference back in 1981, the league’s founders had one simple goal in mind: to create a competitive Division I men’s basketball conference for unaffiliated schools on the Eastern seaboard. A single-sport entity at its inception, even the league’s most ardent supporters during its formative years could not have envisioned a transformation into a burgeoning 11-member, 21-sport conference. The remarkable success story of the conference began to unfold in 1985, when the league began sponsoring additional sports. Three years later, a change of name was in order and the Northeast Conference as we know it today was born. With membership and sport sponsorship continuing to grow over the next decade and beyond, the NEC now enjoys qualification or play-in access to 13 different NCAA Championships
